
Research direction: Urban Regeneration and Urban Design
Chuan Wang is an Associate Professor and Master Degree Supervisor at the School of Architecture, Southeast University. He is the Deputy Head of Architecture, taking responsibility for research and international cooperation. Trained in architecture and planning, his academic interest aims to answer how theory of urban design and planning facilitate design practice. He is an Associate Fellow of Higher Education Academy (HEA), Member of Architectural Humanities Research Association (AHRA), and Awardee of the Jiangsu Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talent Program, and SEU Zhishan young Scholar. Dr. Wang holds a Ph.D. in Architecture (Edinburgh), a Master of Urban and Rural Planning (Tsinghua), and a Bachelor of Architecture (Tsinghua). As an exhibitor, he participated in the collateral events of the 2021 and 2025 Venice Architecture Biennales.
Teaching:
In recent years, his teaching focuses on transnational joint design studio and urban design theory. His mentee students won the First Prize in 2019 UIA-CBC International Colleges and Universities Competitive Construction Workshop (ICUCCW), a Bronze Award in 2020 China Human Settlement Environment Design Annual Competition (CHSEDAC) and a Third Prize in 2021 Moon Hotel New Concept Design Competition. With teaching excellence, he is awarded with ICUCCW Outstanding Leading Teacher Award (2019), CHSEDAC Excellent Tutor Award (2020), 9-Town Architectural Research Fund’s Outstanding Teacher Award (2019) and Edinburgh Teaching Award Level 1 (2017).
Research:
He is a Principal Investigator for 5 research projects (secured ¥1+ million research funding) and a Co-PI for 11 research projects. Currently, his research focuses on 1) Theory and Practice of Urban and Rural Regeneration, especially on street space revival; 2) Global Mobility of Urban Design and Planning Theory.
